Romantasy Writers Society

Romantasy Writers Society · The Fellowship

We have books to write. The aim of the Fellowship is to make the marketing part easier.

A live membership for romantasy authors preparing their debut or with a few books out, who want to find their readers without marketing swallowing their writing time.

Work out what to focus on, get feedback on what you’re trying, and make time to actually do it, with weekly calls, quiet working sessions and other authors figuring this out alongside you.

Bring the newsletter you haven’t sent. The hook you keep rewriting. The question you’ve Googled six different ways.

Hosted by Melanie Artemis: a fellow romantasy writer with six years in professional marketing.

Free to join. The first twenty members receive the founding rate when doors open.

Why this exists

When you’re writing a book, the manuscript needs you. So does the marketing.

You start posting. You have ideas. You’re getting into a rhythm.

Then the draft needs attention. Or work gets busy. Or you realise fixing one plot hole has somehow created three more.

A few weeks later, your author account is gathering dust and you’re wondering what to say in your newsletter.

I know this one rather well.

I started building a following for my own romantasy before the book was finished, exactly as I’d tell a client to. Then writing needed me. Then work needed me. And the account went quiet.

That’s with six years of marketing behind me. Knowing what to do and making room to do it are two very different things.

And when you do sit down to work on your marketing, there’s the small matter of figuring out which advice actually applies to your books.

How do you talk about the tropes without giving away the plot? Signal the spice without making it the entire personality of the book? Build an audience while you’re still building the world?

You can research all of that alone. Many of us do.

But I wanted somewhere we could bring those questions, get practical help, and actually make progress together.

The Society

A place to work on the books and help people find them.

Romantasy Writers Society brings together authors who want to learn how to market their own work, with support that carries on after the initial burst of motivation.

We meet

We meet each week to talk through what we’re working on, untangle the marketing questions and decide what to do next.

We work

Then there’s dedicated time to actually do it. Quiet working sessions alternate between marketing and writing, because the book still needs to get written.

We keep each other going

In between, you can ask for feedback, share a small victory, or find someone else who is also having a deeply unreasonable time writing a blurb.

You do your own marketing. You have help, accountability and good company while you do it.

What’s included

What we’ll get up to.

Weekly

The Round Table

Our weekly live call: a chance to check in, bring your questions and get help with whatever’s holding you up.

Field NotesI’ll share Field Notes from my own author marketing too: what I’m trying, what the numbers suggest, and what I’d change next. You’ll see the work while it’s happening, including the bits that need another attempt.
Monthly

The Guest Chair

A session with someone who knows a particular corner of the industry well.

We’ll explore things like launches, covers, ads, newsletters and BookTok through extended interviews or live Q&As. Bring the questions you wish you could ask someone who’s done it.

Fortnightly

Quiet Hours: Marketing

Ninety minutes to work alongside other authors.

Bring the newsletter you keep putting off, the content you need to batch, or the blurb that has been open in another tab for an embarrassing length of time.

We say hello, share what we’re working on, then get on with it.

Fortnightly

Quiet Hours: Writing

The same dedicated working time, this time for the manuscript.

Microphones off. Your work in front of you. Other writers making time for theirs.

These alternate with the marketing sessions, so there’s a Quiet Hours session every week.

Always open

The Hall

Our main community space, for everything that comes up between calls.

Questions, wins, drafts you’d like feedback on, and “does this make sense to anyone who hasn’t spent three years inside my fictional universe?”

I’ll be in there through the week too.

Member-led

Pods

A space to find your smaller circle within the Fellowship.

Connect by subgenre, launch month, time zone, or simply because you get along. Find an accountability partner, gather some launch buddies, or start a little group of your own.

Grows monthly

The Library

Round Table and guest session recordings, so you can catch up when life or time zones get in the way.

Plus a new marketing template or swipe file each month, made with romantasy authors in mind and ready to adapt for your books.

A little structure for our very full writing lives.

The Hall and Pods stay open throughout the month. Round Table and guest sessions are recorded for the Library.

Come to the sessions that help you. You don’t need to attend everything to belong here.

Who it’s for

For authors who want to give their books a proper chance.

This is the place for you if:

  • You write romantasy, fantasy romance, paranormal romance, or something closely related.
  • You’re working toward your debut, or you have books out and want a more consistent approach to marketing them.
  • You want to understand and manage your own marketing, with someone to help you think it through.
  • You tend to make more progress when there’s a time in the calendar and other people showing up with you.
Melanie Artemis, Keeper of the Fellowship

Keeper of the Fellowship

I went into marketing so that one day I could market my own books.

Hello, I’m Melanie Artemis. A marketer, a romantasy writer, and someone who has wanted to be a published author for as long as I can remember.

Marketing was part of the plan.

Over the past six years, I’ve worked across ecommerce, bricks-and-mortar businesses and personal brands, from brand-new accounts to seven-figure businesses. I’ve helped build the strategies, positioning and content systems that get a business in front of the people who might love it.

Alongside all of that, I’ve been writing my own romantasy.

The first draft is finished. There is still a frankly impolite amount of work to do.

As I work toward self-publishing, I’m bringing my marketing experience with me and learning the specifics of this industry as I go. Inside the Fellowship, I’ll share what I’m trying, what’s happening, and what I’m reconsidering.

I haven’t published a novel yet. I have spent six years helping people market what they’ve built, and now I’m applying that experience to something I care about enormously.

The Fellowship is the community I wanted for this part of the journey. I’ll bring the marketing knowledge, guests will bring expertise from across the industry, and we’ll have plenty to learn from one another.

The Prologue

Every Fellowship has its first members.

Ours are The Prologue.

The first twenty members will help shape this community from the beginning: what we explore, where we need more support, and what makes it somewhere we want to keep showing up.

My first book is still ahead of me too. It feels like a fitting place to start.

Twenty founding seats, offered in the order people join

Founding rate

The Prologue

$29 USD per month

Standard membership: $49 USD per month.

Your founding rate stays with you for as long as you remain a member.

  • Full membership at $29 a month, instead of the standard $49.
  • A 15-minute First Word call with me, to talk about your books, your marketing and where you’d most like help.
  • A place in The Prologue, with a say in how the Fellowship develops.

Founding seats will be offered to the waitlist first, in the order people joined. Once all twenty are taken, the founding rate closes.

Join the waitlist

Free to join the list. You decide whether to become a member when doors open.

Questions

A few things you might be wondering.

When does it open?

Doors open soon. I’ll email the waitlist first, with everything you need to decide whether you’d like to join.

The twenty founding seats will be offered to the waitlist before they’re offered anywhere else.

Does joining the waitlist commit me to anything?

No. Joining is free, and you’re not signing up for a paid membership yet.

You’ll hear from me when doors open, and you can decide then.

Have you published a book yourself?

Not yet. My first novel is through its first draft, and I’m working toward self-publishing it.

You’ll see that process as it happens, including the decisions, experiments and things I’d do differently next time.

I bring six years of professional marketing experience. For areas where I’m still learning or where we need specialist knowledge, I’m bringing in guests with that experience.

I haven’t published yet. Am I too early?

You’re welcome while you’re working toward your debut.

We can help you think through your readers, your positioning and a manageable way to start building your author presence.

You don’t need a finished book to begin. You also don’t need to turn marketing into a second full-time job while you’re trying to write it.

What happens during Quiet Hours?

We meet on a video call, say hello and share what we’re working on. Then we mute our microphones and work alongside one another.

That’s it, really. A time in the calendar, a task in front of you, and some company while you make progress.

Can I cancel?

Yes. Membership is month to month, and you can cancel at any time.

Your founding rate lasts while your membership stays active. If you leave and decide to return later, you’ll rejoin at the standard price available then.

Is it only for romantasy?

Romantasy is at the heart of it. Our examples, templates and discussions will focus on reaching readers in this genre.

Fantasy romance, paranormal romance and romance-forward fantasy authors are welcome too.

The waitlist

Pull up a chair.

Join the waitlist to hear when doors open and get first access to the twenty founding seats in The Prologue.

I’d love to know what you’re writing.

Questions? hello@romantasywriterssociety.com

Dear Society,

Where are you in your author journey?

You’re on the list!

I’ll be in touch when doors open, with first access to the founding seats.

Until then, good luck with the manuscript. Especially that bit you’re avoiding.
